Use Units of Measure

Units of Measure video tutorial

Use Units of Measure (UOM) to define each product's stock on hand. Each product must have a base UOM set, defining how the product's individual units are stored, managed and sold. There is then also have the opportunity to define alternative UOMs per product, which automates the purchasing of stock in one UOM and accurately converting it into it's base UOM, see Multiple Units of Measure.

Add a Unit of Measure

To set a product's base UOM and subsequent alternative UOM's, each UOM must be setup in your account's settings.
WARNING: The Name of a UOM cannot be edited.

To add a new Unit of Measure (UOM):

  1. From Unleashed's main menu, go to Settings, System and select Unit of Measure
  2. Provide a unique *Unit of Measure Name.
  3. Click Add

Manage Units of Measure

Once a UOM has been added it can't be edited, however it can be obsoleted or deleted if it's no longer in use or needed.

Tick the Show Obsolete checkbox above the listed UOM's to view any currently obsolete UOM. You can then un-obsolete any UOMs you may want to re-introduce.

Obsolete a Unit of Measure

A UOM can be obsoleted only if it is not currently the base UOM for a product or a default purchasing unit for a product or supplier. If the Obsolete checkbox is greyed out in the Units of Measure settings page, this means the UOM is currently allocated as a base or default purchasing UOM and cannot be obsoleted.

To obsolete a UOM:

  1. From Unleashed's main menu, go to Settings, System and select Unit of Measure
  2. Tick the Obsolete checkbox along the UOM's row.

Delete a Unit of Measure

If a UOM has been made in error or hasn't been used on any product, it can be deleted:

  1. From Unleashed's main menu, go to Settings, System and select Unit of Measure
  2. Click on the bin icon along the UOM's row to delete it.

Use Units of Measure

Once your UOMs have been added to your settings, they can be set as base or default purchasing unit to provide further context for your products and further automate purchase pricing with your Suppliers.

By design, each product's Stock On Hand (SOH) in Unleashed is provided in the product's base UOM. Any Stock Adjustment, Assembly, Warehouse Transfer or Sales Order processed for the product will also be in the product's base UOM, and as such the product's base UOM cannot be changed after it's been used in a transaction.

For more details on how to use alternative Units of Measure when purchasing products, see Multiple Units of Measure.
