Printing Bill of Materials

A Bill of Materials is the recipe for assembling your products. It is an important record which contains the comprehensive list of all parts, items, and assemblies required to build a complete product.

In Unleashed, the Bill of Materials page lets you create and maintain the components and quantities that make your finished goods. The image illustrates the Production Process in Unleashed and how the Bill of Materials is used.

Points to Note

  • Available on Medium, Large, and Large Plus subscriptions.
  • You can create a Bill of Materials only for Assembled products.
  • If you have nested Bill of Materials, you can view all levels in your Bill of Materials.
  • You can only add Component products to a Bill of Materials.
  • All assembled and component products must be already created. For more information about creating products, see Create Products
  • You need to have one Bill of Materials (BOM) for each manufactured product. Also, the value of the finished product is the sum of the value of all component quantities.
  • You can add one Bill of Materials as a component to another Bill of Materials. The nested Bill of Materials will be displayed in the Component Products grid.
  • If you have a product which is both an assembled and component product, and you have created a Bill of Materials, you cannot add the same component product to it's own Bill of Materials.
  • If you have open assemblies for a Bill of Material, you CANNOT mark it as Obsolete.

Tutorial

Adding a Bill of Materials

  1. Go to Production | Bill of Materials | Add Bill of Materials
    Screen_Shot_2022-11-14_at_8.46.06_AM.png
  1. Specify the Product Code.
  2. Configure the BOM Settings

    - Can Auto Assemble: Enable this setting to activate the Auto Assembly feature for this BOM
    - Auto Assign Oldest Batch/Serial: Select the checkbox to Automatically assign the Oldest Batch or Serial number to your component products when a new Assembly (or Auto-Assembly) is created for this BOM.
    - Can Auto Disassemble: Enable this setting to active the Auto Disassembly feature for this BOM
    - Sort By ProductCode: Select the checkbox to sort the ComponentProduct list within the BOM by the Product Code. This order will also be applied to any created Assemblies or Disassemblies.

  3. Specify the Component Product and Quantity.
  4. The Wastage Qty field allows you to include a margin of error in the BOM calculation. When you assemble your finished goods, the wastage quantity and assembly quantity will not be included in the component products stock on hand count. The value of quantity and wastage quantity of the component is assigned to the finished product. For all components in a BOM the value of the finished product is the sum of the value of all component quantities.
  5. If you add a Never Diminishing product, note the following points:
    • If you have an accounting provider integration with Unleashed, the Expense Account drop-down list will be available ONLY for Never Diminishing products.
    • The Expense Account field values are retrieved from the linked accounts in the Accounting provider. Ensure that you select the correct account.
    • When you complete an assembly or disassembly, a journal will be passed to the integrated accounting provider.
    • The Unit Cost is displayed and you can edit the cost if required.

Single Level Bill of Materials

If you have a Bill of Materials with only component products, it will displayed as illustrated in the image.

Screen_Shot_2022-11-14_at_8.56.25_AM.png

  • The Sort by Product Code checkbox is enabled by default and it will sort the Component Product column. This order will then be also applied to assemblies created for this BOM.
  • Use the  icon to reorder the component product lines using drag and drop.
  • Select the Add drop down option at the Top Right of your BOM to quickly create an Assembly or Disassembly for this BOM.

Multi-Level Bill Of Materials

If you have added an assembled product with another Bill Of Materials as a component product to a different Bill Of Materials, you can display all levels in the Bill Of Materials as illustrated in the image.

  • Use the  icon to expand the different levels.
  • Use the  icon on the Component Product column  to Expand or Collapse All levels for a multi-level Bill of Materials.
  • You can only edit the lines for the top-level Bill Of Materials.

Viewing Bill Of Materials

The View Bills Of Materials (BOM) page enables you to view the list of existing BOM(s) and enables you to perform multiple actions as described in this section.

  • Bill Number: Specify a Bill Number to display the list.
  • Product: Specify a Product Code/Description or click on the Search icon to search for a product.
  • Obsolete: You can select if you want to display Obsolete BOM(s).
